Maintenance Avoids Nashua Water Removal Needs

When heavy downpours cause water damage in Nashua basements or crawl spaces, homeowners seek immediate emergency services. Fortunately, the SERVPRO® team offers 24/7 response to requests for help. A prompt safety assessment at your home, followed by rapid water removal and structural drying services, is critical to recovery.

Our crews also determine why your home in Nashua was vulnerable to water damage due to flooding and seepage. Reputable disaster recovery companies like SERVPRO commit to going beyond today’s crisis, assisting property owners in arranging adjustments, repairs, and maintenance to prevent the next storm from damaging your home again.

What Causes Repeated Basement Water Damage?

Surprisingly, the system you expect to protect your home from rain and meltwater runoff could be the culprit in basement and crawl space seepage and flooding. Aging and poorly maintained roofs, gutters, and downspouts funnel precipitation to the ground right next to your foundation, permitting the fluids to flow into windows and other openings and pass directly through porous materials like cinder blocks, concrete, wood, bricks, or stones used in foundations.

How Can Property Owners Avoid Roof Drainage Issues?

Some SERVPRO technicians will look top-side as others attend to water damage mitigation and remediation below ground level. Identification of weaknesses in your roof and drainage system is the key to recommendations for repairs and reinstallation due to:

  • Loose, worn, and missing shingles, flashings, and damaged eaves and soffits
  • Clogged and broken down gutters, including improperly angled troughs that cause pooling and overflowing down your exterior’s siding--note that clogged gutters cause ice dams during freezing temperatures, resulting in water damage at the roofline and into your attic
  • Improperly attached or blocked drain spouts might also deposit water directly at the foundation line rather than several feet away, exacerbated by inadequate grading (no sloping away) of the ground next to your home, also allowing water to pool and seep inside

Collaborate with the experts at SERVPRO of Nashua when costly repeated water damage from storms disrupts your family’s life. Call us at (603) 608-3058 to discuss options for emergency water damage restoration services and preventative maintenance that help block future water incursion.

Nashua Homeowners Can Look Out for Water Damage

SERVPRO Techs Bring Professional Water Cleanup to Nashua

The need for water restoration in Nashua properties shows up in various ways. Property owners can regularly check out their residences for signs of damage. Signs of the need for water restoration are:

  • Water stains or wet spots on floors or walls
  • Nails coming out of floorboards due to warping from moisture
  • Musty odors also indicate the presence of mold
  • Leaks under sinks

There are several actions Nashua homeowners with water damage can take to address the need for water cleanup and establish preventative measures to avoid this situation in the future. SERVPRO recommends that property owners perform the following actions:

Inspect their residence regularly, looking from floor to ceiling in each room

  • Use of environmental monitoring to notify the homeowner in case of a leak in the plumbing or pipe break
  • Be vigilant in basements and crawlspaces, checking for hydrostatic water or the need for encapsulation (installing an envelope in the enclosed area)
  • In case of water damage within the home, always use professional restoration services

Benefits of Professional Water Damage Cleanup

Residential kitchens and bathrooms are two areas where SERVPRO regularly assists with water restoration services. The plumbing hub for the house is in the kitchen, with both sinks and appliances tapping into the home supply for use. Homeowners with a sudden pipe burst might mop up the water, and the floor looks clean, but a lot can be happening below the surface in terms of water damage. Water can seep under tile or floorboards and affect a subfloor quickly. While it may still dry on its own, the result can be loosened or damaged tile or warped floorboards. If the moisture affects the core of engineered floorboards, they can ruin beyond repair and require replacement.

SERVPRO technicians can use their detection equipment to determine all areas of elevated moisture within a structure. Probes can decide if the probability of a wet subfloor or joists exists without lifting boards or drilling holes. Infrared cameras are beneficial for tracking water migration behind walls without damaging the structure. These advanced devices enable the techs to map out the scale of the water damage in a home and set up containment if necessary.

When is Containment Necessary During Water Damage Cleanup?

A sewage backup or contaminated water in a home can lead to the need for containment. This practice of closing off the entrances and vents within the work site inhibits the spread of airborne elements that could potentially cause harm if aspirated or absorbed through skin contact. SERVPRO technicians wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and utilize cleaning agents that carry EPA registrations. This arsenal of supplies includes stout biocides and antifungal solutions to treat the water within the structure and lower the potential for harm from contaminants during the extraction process.

Clean and Sanitized After Water Damage

The techs ensure that the home, even after a sewage water cleanup, gets left sanitized for habitation by the homeowners. The techs wipe down all affected surfaces with their cleaners and test for the presence of bacteria before rating the surface CERTIFIED SERVPRO CLEANED.

Nashua property owners rely on SERVPRO of Nashua for water damage restoration. The IICRC-certified technicians are available 365 days per year by calling (603) 889-2311.

SERVPRO Preserves and Restores Water Loss Property in Nashua

5/8/2022 (Permalink)

a leaking pipe under a sink Dealing with a water leak in your kitchen can be quite overwhelming. SERVPRO arrives on the scene with water removal tools and more.

Saving a Nashua Hardwood Floor after a Water Leak

Modern appliances are typically labor and money saving options, accessible equipment that Nashua homeowners purchase and install to make life a little easier. Many appliances use water to complete their tasks. Malfunctions of pumps or breakdowns of hoses or connections can expose your home’s structure to water damage. Often the units are built-in, concealing the leaks until significant harm to structural components and fixtures has already occurred.

We recently responded to concerns about a water leak from a Nashua customer. The problem was in the kitchen where the beautiful tongue and groove hardwood flooring risked permanent damage from water flowing out of a built-in dishwasher. This area of the kitchen sits above a crawl space that also suffered damage from the water intrusion.

When our crew arrived, we disconnected and moved the dishwasher from the area. Water had not only flowed on the surface of the floor in front of the appliance, but also had seeped between the planking, through the underlayment paper, and into the subfloor. After assessing the situation, the SERVPRO crew followed the plan devised to save the hardwood, bring the subfloor back to normal moisture levels, and dry out the crawl space void and supporting joists.

We needed to dry the expensive hardwood tongue and groove planking to appropriate moisture levels in a controlled manner to prevent distortion. Access to the subfloor and crawl space was also necessary to remove any water and to speed the drying process. SERVPRO crew members carefully removed planks from about 24 rows of the tongue and groove installation to help accomplish these goals.

Technicians took frequent moisture readings as the planks dried in a contained area, ensuring even but not overly aggressive drying. Air movers and heaters pulled moisture from the subfloor and created circulation in the crawl space. Dehumidifiers captured the resulting airborne water vapor for collection and disposal. All affected surfaces received thorough cleaning and disinfection using EPA-registered products.

Once all materials and the crawl space dried to specifications, SERVPRO arranged for the expensive tongue and groove flooring’s reinstallation. The crew’s fast and professional response saved our customer considerable expense, making the water crisis “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO of Nashua commits to arriving quickly with the trained crew and state-of-the-art equipment needed to restore your home after any disaster. Call us at (603) 889-2311 to schedule an assessment of your water loss.

A Leaking Pipe in My Kitchen Caused Water Damage in My Property. Who Can Help Me to Restore it?

SERVPRO Can Perform Effective Water Restoration in Your Nashua Home

Plumbing issues are among the common causes of water damage in most properties in Nashua. Professional plumbers and water damage restoration experts may have to work closely to identify any likely contamination in water and the problem's source to determine the right approach for mitigation and restoration.

When Should I Contact Professional Restorers?

Most water damage incidents call for fast extraction and drying to minimize damage. SERVPRO can use advanced equipment and tools to conduct water restoration in your Nashua residence. We use the necessary equipment depending on the level of standing water present in our customer's property. For example, if there are two or more inches of stagnant water in your house, we can use an electric submersible pump to extract it.

Unfortunately, even a small amount of water sipping into various surfaces in your property can cause mold growth, stain your walls, and warp your wooden surfaces if ignored for more than 48 hours. You need restoration services after any amount of water event that:

  • Saturates your upholstery and carpeting
  • Gets into a confined area or behind a wall
  • Touches your drywall
  • Creates a pool of water

When Do You Start The Restoration Process?

An efficient water restoration process needs to get a reputable plumber to fix the plumbing issues. It is possible to minimize damage by switching off the main water supply and removing the excess water. Minimizing the spread of contaminated water may be useful to contain damage, reducing the number of contents that need cleaning and disinfection. Mitigation can have a limited effect if you do not fix the plumbing issue first.

How Do You Dry Carpeting?

A leaky supply line causes category one water damage since it releases clean water. In such an instance, our technicians do not need to clean or disinfect the affected area as we extract the excess water and dry it on time. Our SERVPRO technicians can use a self-propelled extraction tool to remove the excess water from your carpet. The machine only leaves moisture behind, which we can extract using indirect-fired furnaces. These tools can dry the area thoroughly.

Water damage can cause health effects if ignored for an extended period. Contact SERVPRO of Nashua at (603) 889-2311 to handle the water damage in your property to make it "Like it never even happened."

Need Water Damage Remediation and Repair in Nashua – Call SERVPRO

Water leaks occur for many reasons in Nashua homes. From overflowing sinks to broken hoses connected to washing machines and dishwashers to old plumbing connections that have deteriorated and begun to leak, hundreds of gallons of water can soak your home while you are away. The water always travels to the lowest point in the house, following the easiest path. Flooring materials can be damaged, interior walls, ceilings in rooms below the leak, and so on. With all of the potential damage, it is important to act quickly and call for help.

SERVPRO provides water damage mitigation in Nashua on an emergency basis. Our team responds in less than four hours from your call because we know how important it is to remove excess water, begin drying, and lower humidity before extensive damage can occur, especially to porous materials.

Drywall and particleboard materials absorb water easily, begin to swell and lose structural integrity. Kitchen cupboards, laundry room cupboards, and bathroom cupboards can be ruined. Carpets and underpads can be cleaned and dried provided that the water does not cause the carpet to delaminate. Hardwood floors absorb water more slowly, but even hardwood floors can swell, causing cupping and buckling.

Regulating Moisture Removal from Hardwood in Nashua Homes

While you might believe that drying materials and your home as fast as is possible might be the only objective of professional restoration, other considerations must get made in your Nashua home. Some materials do not fare well under rapid drying conditions and can become more damaged by our efficient approach than if the process was more gradual. Hardwood can also suffer the effects of becoming too dry, so our drying efforts must get closely monitored to ensure that we are not passing this threshold.

Were you aware that different woods have different porosity ratings – so water damage in Nashua homes can affect each of these materials differently? Part of being a reputable restoration company is educating our SERVPRO Water Restoration Technicians (WRT) on these variances and how to confidently address these situations without threatening the integrity or the appearance of the flooring. Our training through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) in avenues like Applied Structural Drying (ASD) can help to showcase the devices necessary to perform calculated drying efforts for hardwood surfaces.

Drying Mats

Drying mats should get placed perpendicular to the seams of hardwood flooring to allow them to address as many planks simultaneously as possible. These tools are vital for a continual and gradual draw of moisture from the wood.

Tenting

Constructed of poly-sheeting kept with our inventory of water restoration equipment on our SERVPRO production trucks, tents regulate the specific work area of drying mats and other equipment like our positive pressure systems, air movers, and dehumidifiers.

Moisture Meter

Moisture content meters provide the most crucial information of all when drawing moisture from hardwood flooring. Our technicians can look to these devices to determine the current saturations of wood planks to keep them within the parameters where they look and function the best.

Hardwood is a staple of construction through every era, so it is a flooring that our SERVPRO of Nashua team has trained to restore when water damage incidents strike. Give our professionals a call anytime that you need us at (603) 889-2311.

Maintaining Your Gutters Prevents Water Damage in Nashua

6/17/2021 (Permalink)

gutters filled with debris Clogged gutters cause water damage issues to your Nashua home. SERVPRO has you covered from start to finish on all water damages restoration services.

SERVPRO Tips for Your Nashua Home to Stop Damage by Water

Keeping your home’s gutters in good shape is one of the most important things you can do to avoid water damage to your home. The one thing gutters are designed to do is to channel water away from your foundation. They are critical in protecting the structural integrity of your home. However, for gutters to work correctly, they need to be kept in shape and free of holes, clogs, and sags. If your gutters have caused water damage to your home, you may be wondering where near me is a water damage remediation company, such as SERVPRO, who can help you clean up the mess.

Most gutter problems are easily avoidable with proper upkeep to your Nashua home. It is worth the time and effort to avoid water damage to your Nashua home. Gutters are something where regular maintenance and inspection can stop more significant problems down the road.

Clogged Gutters

If left unattended, the most common problem is that downspouts and gutters get clogged with debris, which renders them useless. The extra weight of twigs, leaves, and standing water can make them sag as well and pull away from the fascia. Clean out your gutters once a year or twice if there are a lot of nearby trees. Maintenance should be scheduled four times a year, with more checks after big storms. If you are comfortable on a ladder, cleaning your gutters is possible on your own if your house is not unusually tall. Once the muck is cleared out, flush the gutters with a garden hose to ensure they flow well.

If you still wind up having a problem with clogged gutters causing water damage to your home in any way, our trained staff at SERVPRO can come out and help you. We have the tools and experience to correct the damage and prevent more from occurring.

Sagging Gutters

Generally, this is a problem with the hardware which secures the gutters to the fascia. The fasteners could have backed out of the wood, the hangers may have deteriorated over time, or are spaced too far apart to support the whole weight of the gutters. As soon as you notice this problem, get new hangers right away to prevent any water damage. The fasteners are inexpensive, and this is an easy fix.

Holes and Leaks

You can seal gutter joints that are leaky by caulking the joint with gutter sealant on the inside. A tube is only a few dollars, and gutter sealant can be used to fill minuscule holes. Bigger holes need patches.

Gutters that are not operating the way they should can cause severe water damage to your home. Once you realize there is a problem, contact SERVPRO of Nashua right away.  (603) 889-2311.

How the Town of Nashua got its Name

Have you ever thought about how odd our city's name is? Of course, everyone knows that Nashua is named after the river, but few people know the real history behind why our places are called what they are.

The story starts with the earliest European settlement of the town, which was in the early 17th century, making our city one of the country's oldest permanent settlements. Opportunists founded it as the fur trading post of Dunstable, with a relatively small contingent of permanent Native American and European settlers. The modern town of Dunstable retains the name despite not being the original building site.

For over two hundred years, the town kept its name until it formally split from its Massachusetts side. Then, residents decided to change the name to Nashua, perhaps motivated by the rapidly expanding economic importance of the waterway. The river had long since been named for the Nashaway tribe, a relatively weak band that had lost lands in wars and debt. Several feuds led to the town's decade-long separation into two competing halves, Nashua and Nashville, before they finally reconciled and moved forward as the community we know today.

Nashua Was Once a Very Grim Place

Today, Nashua's economy continues to thrive and expand, with companies always looking to our neighborhoods to improve the quality of life for employees. However, in times past, employers here helped give the American Industrial Revolution the dark appearance it shows today.

Early in the 19th Century, Nashua began to transition from farming and fur trades into an industrial city. Local investors piggybacked off of infrastructure created by the rapidly growing town of Manchester, with new transportation channels opening that allowed for bulk shipments of raw materials to flow freely in and out of the city. Consequently, enormous mills opened in our downtown, including what was then one of the largest paper companies on the continent.

Over time, working conditions deteriorated, with hours increasing as wages dropped. As in many other industrial towns across America, many people in Nashua suffered injuries and illnesses without any care from their employers. The companies started earning a poor reputation that, coupled with increased competition from the South, spelled doom for local manufacturing.

Things turned out well in the end. Fortunately, the empty mill spaces tempted other companies, especially high-tech firms. Once crippled by robber barons, our community now shines with opportunity.

Water Damage Restoration Does Not Always Cost Much

One of the most understandable concerns we get from Nashua residents about water damage restoration is the process's cost. In an effort to increase the accessibility of our services, we have taken several steps to reduce costs on many of our projects, including:

  • Working with insurance companies to cover most damages
  • Securing high-quality materials for low prices
  • Scaling treatments to the severity of the incident
  • Responding 24/7 to mitigate consequences

If you have questions or concerns about how much a restoration project might cost for you, then you should call SERVPRO of Nashua at (603) 889-2311 to speak with one of our expert representatives.

Several potential issues could affect the washing machine in your Nashua home and cause it to leak or flood the areas around the appliance. Broken seals in the discharge line can happen without you noticing, and once a breach exists in this outlet, the full water contents of a load can empty onto the floor of your laundry room. How Do I Restore My Nashua Home After A Water Damage?

Remove water damage quickly to reduce secondary damage.

When your Nashua home experiences significant water damages, you might concede that cleaning up the mess and getting the area restored is out of the wheelhouse of the weekend warrior handyman-homeowner. One of the best things that you can do for your home is to react to the situation as quickly as possible, to allow for a rapid response time that limits the severity of the damage in your house.

Whether a burst in your plumbing or a disconnected appliance is to blame, when you need water removal services for your Nashua home, it is always a good idea to know whom you plan to call ahead of time. This forward thinking can help you get the right team, like our SERVPRO professionals, to your home and working on restoring the damage that you have experienced while everyone else is still pouring through reviews and ratings.

From the moment that our professionals arrive at your home, we can get to work quickly on extracting the water from the affected areas. The longer this pooled water gets permitted to stay, the more damage and farther reach it has. Ultimately, this makes it exponentially more challenging to dry the area thoroughly. This extraction typically involves a combination of equipment such as wet-vacs, portable pumps, and even a pump truck from our SERVPRO fleet if a high enough volume of water is present inside your house.

Once the standing water has gotten removed, air movers and dehumidifiers work to dry out open areas of your home. Drying mats could get used to penetrate beneath the top layer of flooring and eliminate moisture seepage here. In the same way, our injectidry system can prevent moisture from persisting in wall cavities by forcing air through hoses inserted through holes commonly drilled (and then later repaired) behind baseboards.

When you need water removal services in your home, time is of the essence. Trust in the team of restoration specialists we have at SERVPRO of Nashua. Our experienced team can respond quickly and restore your home back to pre-water loss conditions. Give us a call 24/7 at (603) 889-2311.

SERVPRO Technicians Are Available to Mitigate Water Damage to Your Nashua Home 24/7

While Nashua homeowners may have been informed by their local water heater installation professional about the service lifespan of this crucial home appliance, failures can occur well before that eight- to twelve-year service life has ended. While annual or semi-annual inspections can prevent many incidents, accidents can still happen that leave homeowners unsure about what to do. Consumer-grade products are typically not able to address the effects of sudden, high-volume water damage.

What can SERVPRO provide for Nashua homeowners affected by water damage due to appliance failures?

  • 24/7 service. SERVPRO techs are available to mitigate damage at any time of the day or night, including weekends and holidays.
  • IICRC-certified technicians. The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) sets the standard for the restoration industry. Technicians observe these specifications to the letter.
  • Sophisticated cleanup technologies. Restoration pros utilize everything from infrared cameras to Thermo hygrometers to determine the moisture contents in and behind surfaces and then combat damage with extraction tools, drying equipment, and EPA-registered antimicrobials.
  • A loss-prevention approach to cleaning. SERVPRO focuses on restoring your structure and its contents while minimizing repair and replacement costs with safe and effective cleanup methods and technologies.

Water Heater Parts That Can Cause Water Damage to Nashua Homes

These parts are often the most vulnerable on tank-style water heaters, which can be found in 97% of US homes. A lack of regular maintenance causes a whopping 44% of water heater-related repair needs. Flushing and evaluating the tank once or twice a year can prevent a variety of failures in your system.

  • The anode rod. This aluminum or magnesium rod collects rust to keep corrosion from affecting the tank or other parts of the heater. If this rod corrodes too much or sediment buildup prevents the anode rod from doing its job, other parts of the heater may rust, including the tank and valves.
  • A corroded tank. If the internal or external tank rusts, it can lead to large amounts of water pouring into your home. Keep the tank clear of sediments and replace the anode rod when needed to prevent this.
  • Loose or rusty valves. Leaky valves can indicate sediment buildup or corrosion issues in other areas of your hot water tank.
  • Damaged supply lines. Hot water outlets can get damaged as they supply water to the home because the water is hottest at the top of the outlet.

When you notice these signs, call a trusted professional to make repairs or replace parts immediately. However, if water damage has already occurred in your Nashua property, SERVPRO is only a phone call away from providing effective mitigation.

Dealing with Nashua Basement Water Damage Until Help Arrives

  • Elevate furniture and possessions. Keep possessions off the ground and away from water wherever possible. Keep furniture on cinder blocks and put belongings in plastic containers on shelving that is out of reach of the water.
  • Avoid electrical components. If the water damage occurred near your breakers or other electrical components, avoid touching them to prevent the risk of electrical shocks. Have a professional examine your electrical system for damages.
  • Do not flush out your water heater. Attempting to flush sediments out of a leaky water heater can cause even more damage. Wait until your heater has been serviced, and the tank has been repaired or replaced.
  • Contact your insurance company. This step is crucial to receiving compensation for damages to your property. Water damage from your water heater can lead to extensive structural repairs, structural drying, and potential mold remediation depending on the duration of the leak. An insurance adjuster can assist you in navigating these complexities. SERVPRO can also help with the claims filing process.

While it can be overwhelming to deal with water damage to something as essential as your water heater, the most important things homeowners can do until mitigation professionals arrive are staying safe and protecting their possessions.

SERVPRO Technicians Can Restore Your Nashua Home's Water-Damaged Basement

SERVPRO works diligently to extract water from finished basements with a variety of tools, including:

  • Extraction wands
  • Mops
  • Squeegees
  • Sponges

Extraction is essential not only to minimize the onset of further water damage but also to ensuring that structural dying is successful and efficient. Without this process, drying with air movers and dehumidifiers can take several times longer.

If you have wood furniture or upholstery that has been affected by water tank damage, technicians can address that during the extraction and drying process. Polyethylene drying chambers may be erected to contain affected furniture in a space that can facilitate faster drying.

Water damage often brings odors with it that are musty and unpleasant. SERVPRO can address these odors with EPA-registered biocides, low-grain refrigerant dehumidifiers, and box fans made to exchange air at speeds between 3000 and 5000 CFM (cubic feet per minute).

SERVPRO of Nashua serves the community with mitigation that is Faster to Any Size Disaster. Call (603) 889-2311 for 24/7 service that can restore your home to its preloss condition.

Water Damage Nashua – Pipes Freeze in Rooms Without Heat

Cold winters can freeze water pipes quickly, even inside your home. Many homeowners try to conserve energy and expenses in the winter by turning down the thermostat and turning off hot air vents in unused rooms. There can be a downside to this strategy, especially if there are water pipes in these rooms or the walls during a cold spell.

SERVPRO responds to water damage events in Nashua in all kinds of weather. Frozen pipes inside walls can cause water leakage in the immediate room, as well as the rooms below. Often the water leak is not noticed until the cold spell is over and the pipes thaw out. Water can spray inside the walls for hours before being noticed.

The immediate solution is to turn off the main water supply and thaw out the pipes. A plumber can repair the pipe, replacing the section that cracked when the water pipe froze. SERVPRO can assist in these water damage situations. Our main objective is to remove any standing water and dry out the walls and floors.

Heater and air movers may be installed to raise the temperature in the affected areas to absorb the moisture from the structure. In many cases, the drywall or paneling must be removed. Soaked insulation must also be removed to expose all areas that are wet or damp. Hot, warm air can quickly absorb moisture and dry the area. SERVPRO also uses infrared moisture meters to help identify areas that may require further treatment.

As water evaporates from an area, the surface is cooler, while dry areas remain at room temperature. This difference in temperature shows up on an infrared scan and helps identify areas that still contain moisture and require further moisture abatement. Many clients are surprised how far water can travel in a short time frame. Failure to remove the moisture and treat these areas can lead to structural damage and mold.

Tips for Removing Odors Caused by Water Damage in Your Nashua Residence

When a home has a musty smell, it can be challenging to focus on anything else apart from the horrible odor. You may describe the scent as dank, earthy, stale, or moldy, and it could be an indication of water damage or mold growth. Water can get into unwanted areas after a pipe burst or an appliance like a water heater or washing machine leaks.

Bacteria can grow in stagnant water, making it emit a bad odor. To deal with odor after experiencing water damage in your Nashua residence, the first step should be to extract the standing water using a wet/dry vacuum and then dry saturated carpets or other wet furnishings outdoors if the weather permits. If the outdoor temperature does not allow drying items in the sun, elevate the damp carpets or furnishings to allow air to circulate over and underneath them. Place fans around the soggy household fixtures to aid the drying process. If there are windows and doors close to the water-damaged area, open them to let fresh air in as this can speed up drying.

You can also steam clean your carpeting to remove the excess moisture and odor-causing bacteria and toxins. You may also use common household ingredients such a baking soda and vinegar to remove the lingering odors. In cases of severe water damage, you may have to uninstall the carpeting, remove the padding underneath, and replace them both. A task most homeowners are not willing to do on their own.

If the affected area is large to handle personally, call a restoration firm like SERVPRO for help. We can send a seasoned Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) to your house right away to evaluate the problem and begin the restoration work.

Our technicians can develop a workable plan based on the severity of water loss and odors. Odor issues from water damage typically occur because damp materials have not dried completely. Many of the odors go away when the moisture level of materials returns to normal. We use water extraction equipment, air movers, and dehumidifiers to achieve complete and odor-free dryness. One method of deodorization may not eliminate all the scent, and that’s why our crews use multiple deodorization agents to deal with both real and imaginary odors (Phantosmia), including:

• Masking agents
• Filtration and absorption agents
• Pairing agents
• Sanitizers and disinfectants

Our SERVPRO WRT can also use air scrubbers to eliminate moisture from the air. Air scrubbers fitted with HEPA filters can capture floating particulates that carry unpleasant smells. We also have the expertise to take care of any mold growth, eradicating it at the source so it does not return.

If there are unpleasant odors in your home after a water loss incident, contact SERVPRO of Nashua to eliminate them and restore the affected areas. After our services, the damage can seem “Like it never even happened.” Call us at (603) 605-8822 anytime.

Unwanted Basement Water in Your Nashua Home? Rapid Removal is Available--24/7--Call SERVPRO

SERVPRO Assists with Water Cleanup in Nashua Basement

Water damage brings several problems to a home. The longer the exposure of building structure and contents continues, the more damage that happens. Then there are the concerns of mold growth and foul odors.

SERVPRO responded to a call for water cleanup in a Nashua home. The homeowner stated he was not sure where the plumbing issue was, but he turned off the water before our arrival. When our technicians arrived, they determined the cause of the water was hydrostatic water seepage and was not due to a plumbing problem at all. The locally heavy rains caused groundwater to be pushed into the basement through the foundation, as water always follows the path of least resistance. When the pressure outside the basement was higher than the pressure inside, the water entered because this type of water loss is a category two, also known as gray water because it has the potential to contain contaminants. It can be considered a Cat 3 if known pesticides, chemicals, organic or fecal matter is present.

Fortunately, the only items stored on the basement floor were in plastic bins, so it was simple to clear out. We used submersible pumps to extract the water from the basement quickly and checked the outside of the home to ensure the gutters and drainage had no bearing on the water intrusion in the basement as water collecting around the surface of the house can sometimes be the cause. The homeowner had gutters that needed cleaning badly, and they were not able to direct the flow of rainwater away from the property.

After our SERVPRO technicians extracted the water, we set up air movers and dehumidifiers to dry the surfaces. Then we cleaned and disinfected the affected areas to inhibit mold growth. Once we completed our cleanup efforts, we gave the homeowner a list of the necessary actions to restore the basement to preloss condition and preventative measures to take to avoid this situation from occurring again.

SERVPRO of Nashua stands ready to assist homeowners with water cleanup of any type. Call us at (603) 889-2311, and we can be on-site soon after your initial call with the necessary equipment because We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

How Water Loss Events Can Lead to Mold Damage in Nashua

4/18/2019 (Permalink)

Each vehicle in our Green Fleet is stocked with equipment to restore your water damaged home.

How We Use Desiccation during Water Removal to Protect Against Moldy Areas in Your Nashua Home

Water loss incidents in Nashua can cause a home to have a damper environment or standing water in some areas. It is easier to see puddles on your floor, but damp air can also cause problems and make breathing inside air uncomfortable.

Overdrying can also cause problems, so we use unique instruments that keep our machinery from doing so during water removal projects in Nashua. These pieces of equipment do not become as crucial during the use of pumps and extraction wands as they do when we turn on our desiccation machinery.

Desiccation pulls moisture out of the air. The removal of water vapor forces moisture trapped behind less-permeable coverings, such as vinyl wall coverings and gloss paints, into the atmosphere and then into our machines. As this occurs, taking readings to prevent the over-drying of your house's interior components becomes very important.

Everything in the typical home includes some moisture content. While things may seem dry under normal circumstances, even the driest wood still contains some small percentage of moisture. Dropping below this through induced environmental changes in your home can cause permanent damage. SERVPRO technicians know the desired amounts of everyday materials and can easily prevent such damage from happening.

Moisture readers tell us the amount of moisture inside anything we test. The items we check with our readers include wood floors, trim, and furniture. Without our testing machinery, these items could end up too dry and split, crack, peel, or become damaged in other ways. We want to return your home to its preloss state, "Like it never even happened." Allowing the things inside your residence to end up too dry keeps us from achieving our goal of helping you and your family.

Call SERVPRO of Nashua for all of your home's restoration and mitigation needs, particularly when water removal services can help. Our 24-hour services number, (603) 889-2311, is always answered to serve you better.

Let Our Experts Dry And Waterproof Your Nashua Basement

12/12/2018 (Permalink)

When water damages your Nashua basement, you need the team at SERVPRO.

Drying And Waterproofing Wet Basements In Nashua

Nashua basements usually have two uses; as an extra living area or storage for holiday decorations. It serves well for homeowners until they pull out the table decoration shaped like a turkey and discover water leaking in from the outside.

When water damages your Nashua basement, you need the team at SERVPRO. Because removing water does not solve the underlying problem. Our restoration teams understand that a permanent solution requires drying out this part of your home and stopping the source of the water from causing further problems.

After our technicians pump out the water, they set up dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the air and lower the humidity to comfortable levels. As the devices work, one of our inspectors examine the walls for leaks and seeps. While we can stop one or two minor seeps with a small amount of effort, others eventually form and cause more problems.

The only permanent solutions to a wet basement are to encapsulate the interior and waterproof the outside walls and foundation. SERVPRO specialists start inside and fill every seep and larger crack with hydraulic cement to form a barrier to more leaks. Our experts will then coat all basement walls with masonry cement which is waterproof once it dries. It cements together to form an excellent seal against further water intrusion.

If the floor is dirt, we encapsulate the floor by installing a vapor barrier. Technicians cover it with polyethylene sheets and reinforce them with a polyester mesh. They use large enough sheets so that the ends can go up and cover several inches of the basement walls. To prevent moisture bleeding up from the floor, technicians seal the sheets and mesh to the wall with either polyurethane caulk or two-sided, foundation tape. Encapsulation is low-cost and recommended for unfinished basements or crawlspaces.

As team members finish sealing off the interior, others begin work outside. They dig out and clean the foundation walls, then apply liquid rubber in a very thick layer. Once dry, the seal protects against severe weather and does not crack unless the home itself shifts or a large enough force damages the foundation.

Drying your basement can take several days or longer to complete the task. Stopping further water damage takes additional work, but SERVPRO of Nashua can accomplish everything you need to return your property to pre-damage condition. Call us today at (603) 889-2311 to get started.

FAQ - SERVPRO Says Here Is What You Should Know About Water Damage in Nashua

9/26/2018 (Permalink)

A large question mark symbol made of plastic or wood is in a room leaning against a gray wall and sitting on a wood floor SERVPRO Answers Your Questions About Water and Mold Damage in Nashua

8 Frequently Asked Questions By Nashua Residents Concerning Water Damage

1. How much does a water damage restoration cost?
A: SERVPRO provides a professional consultation/estimate at no charge. Yes, it is free. We base the cost on this consultation and inspection. We note where the damage happened, what materials were harmed, and how much the water mitigation may cost. This is a professional estimate only. It is determined by the size of the affected area, equipment calculations, proper drying plans, building materials that may need to be removed, and how much containment we may need to set up.

2. Are you filing a claim in Nashua with your insurance company?
A: If you are filing a claim, SERVPRO needs your claim number and the name of your carrier. We can then directly deal with your insurer releasing you from undue worry. You are responsible for the deductible and a deposit if no coverage is available.

3. What chemical sanitizes the affected elements after a water loss?
A:  We utilize SERVPRO's proprietary decontamination products on the affected areas to reduce the likelihood of microbial growth, including mold. The primary decontaminant product is SERVPRO Oxide, an EPA registered chlorine dioxide based disinfectant and stabilizer. This product requires no PPE personal protective equipment when applying, is safe for use on all surfaces, and for people and pets.

4. Will I stay at home during the drying process?
A: The answer is yes if the residence is safe. The well-being of our customers and employees is our number one priority. Each case is different depending on the severity of the damage and is evaluated as such. We urge you to remain in your residence whenever possible. However, if judged unsafe, we can suggest to your insurance company to provide you with a temporary relocation. The drying equipment can be noisy, and usually must run for several days continuously during the dry-down period, so some customers prefer not to stay in the home during this time, or at least not during the night hours.

5. How quickly can a SERVPRO crew arrive after an emergency loss to help?
A: The average time is about 2 hours after receiving the contact. SERVPRO techs can arrive on site to do emergency services and start the mitigation process right away. We just require a signed Service Authorization Form.

6. What is the drying process for water damage?
A: The drying process commences with the crew and the help of the homeowner if needed first to discover the source of the water leak and stop it. The crew checks for any electrical safety concerns. Our technicians can remove any pooling water from the wet area and use moisture detectors and measuring equipment as well as psychrometric charts to determine the moisture in the walls and the air. The SERVPRO crew can develop a drying plan to determine the best means of restoration for the property. We can then deploy a variety of drying systems and equipment, including air movers and commercial grade dehumidifiers, to thoroughly dry the materials and environment. The entire drying process generally takes about 3-5 days to complete, depending on the circumstances.

7. Does all water damage cause mold?
A:  Each water damaging event presents an opportunity for mold or other microbial growth. The source and type of water (Clean, Gray, or Black--highly contaminated), the severity of the leak, the ambient temperature, and the duration that moisture has been present all have a direct effect on the amount and types of microbial growth. It is crucial that you take action as soon as you realize that a damaging water event has occurred to prevent the spread of the microbial growth in your home or business.

8. How soon can microbial growth start to grow?
A: Depending upon the conditions, but in most cases, microbial growth can begin to develop within 72 hours of a water damage event. Swiftly responding is paramount to limiting the spread of microbials and secondary water damage. SERVPRO of Nashua's primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of you and your loved ones. Overcoming A Wet Basement In Your Nashua House

6/16/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Is the Solution for Wet Basement Abatement in the Nashua Area

SERVPRO Offers Features and Benefits to Maintain a Damp-Free Nashua Basement

While you might not put a lot of thought and consideration into it, the basement of your Nashua home is critical to the structural integrity of the entire house. With this in mind, you should take the time and provisions required to ensure that this area gets taken care of appropriately throughout the life of your home, and often that means taking some extra steps to prevent unfortunate circumstances from recurring.

A wet basement in your Nashua home can occur from several different sources. While often this water damage penetrates through the walls from exterior threats, this is not always the case. A wet basement can lead to structural concerns and weaknesses, not to mention the dampness providing the appropriate conditions for mold growth and colonization.

Luckily, you can get help when contending with a wet basement. You can confer with the experienced SERVPRO technicians we employ to offer you the most effective solutions to resolve this problem, as well as diagnosing the source of the moisture. Knowing the cause of your problem can help you to prevent recurrences in the future.

Our professionals often recommend the installation of sump pumps for wet basements, though this is often less effective on its own. For an implement like this to work as it should, often floors need to get graded towards the pump itself, which adds a little more time to the overall length of the project. French drains and drainage tiles, costly and excessive for one-time flooding, can be configured if needed. Melting snow, often accompanied by frozen and non-percolating soil, can lead to hydraulic pressure from the entire foundation and up through the concrete pad. Vapor barriers can help reduce moisture penetrations.

To initially dry out the affected areas, our SERVPRO professionals often utilize air movers and dehumidifiers. These pieces of equipment can work simultaneously to rid the area of moisture, effectively starving out mold spores and eliminating their chance to seat and colonize in organic materials found in the lower levels of your home. We often recommend the installation of a permanent dehumidifier to maintain a set humidity level of below 60% in a basement.

While a wet basement might not seem all that dire to many homeowners, the conditions can quickly worsen to significant structural damages and mold growth. With these two serious factors on the line, it is a wise choice to trust in our SERVPRO of Nashua restoration specialists to help you get a handle on the dampness and confer about steps to prevent future water damaging effects. You can reach our experienced team 24/7 by calling (603) 889-2311.

Nashua Homeowners Rely on SERVPRO for Basement Water and Dampness Solutions

Older Nashua Homes with Damp Basements Can Call Upon SERVPRO for Help

A wet basement could indicate several different problems for your Nashua home. Most of these point to structural concerns and penetration points for water and moisture, but correcting these issues is not an overwhelming task to the right team of professionals. With our SERVPRO technicians helping you overcome this situation, we can ensure that the basement of your home gets thoroughly dried and the appropriate measure gets taken to prevent this same situation from occurring again in the immediate future.

Our initial assessment helps to determine the source of the moisture to this area as we plan out the best approach to removing water and moisture from the vicinity. The longer that dampness persists in this area of your home, the more likely the possibility becomes for mold colonies to form. Then you require mold remediation on top of correcting the pressing concerns of a wet basement in your house.

You might want to set up a meeting with the SERVPRO production manager assigned to your home's project about the installation of a sump pump if this is determined to be the problem, or can be a factor in its mitigation. Gutters and drains are also likely solutions to persist water concerns. For these implements to work as they should, exterior foundation grading might need to get adjusted to direct the water to the appropriate channels or drains to get carried away from your home. SERVPRO can provide hydraulic cement, vapor barriers, and water repellent coatings to help suppress the intrusion of water and moisture.

Finding a solution to a persistent wet basement does not have to fall squarely on your shoulders. You can always trust in the experience and expertise of the certified technicians at SERVPRO of Nashua. Our restoration specialists are available anytime you need us at (603) 889-2311.

Don't Duck Getting Your Basement in Nashua Dried--Call SERVPRO

SERVPRO Rapidly Extracts Water and Dries Out Basements to Mitigate Losses

When coming out of the winter season, your Nashua home is bound to experience several different kinds of weather. When the temperatures quickly fluctuate by cold and warm fronts passing through the region, what just left snow and ice yesterday is now pouring down the rain. With the ground never getting enough time to thaw before the rainfalls this time of year adequately, the earth is less able to absorb the moisture, and so it runs along the surface and against the foundation of your home.

While many homes remain prepared for the possibility of flooding and subsequent storm damages that were listed above, no home can remain in opposition to pressurized exterior water against their foundation for long. Every Nashua home inevitably contends with a wet basement, unless the appropriate provisions are taken to prevent this occurrence from happening

There are significant risks to having a wet basement. For starters, while the damage might not appear extreme at first, the more water that can penetrate through weak points in your foundation, the wider these pathways become. This fact leads to untold volumes of water eventually penetrating through the walls of the basement and onto the floors unabated. Preventative work now can keep this flooding from occurring, but that begins with an initial assessment from our certified SERVPRO professionals.

Another concern for a wet basement in your home is the possibility of mold growth. Since mold spores only require moisture and warmer temperatures to form colonies, the conditions can easily get met with allowing water to seep through the walls of the basement level of your house. With the high levels of expertise and necessary equipment for our SERVPRO mold remediation specialists to correct and restore this damage, it might also inspire you to act on your wet basement a little more quickly.

Ultimately, no one is going to be as well informed about your wet basement in your home as you are. Without knowing about the trouble you are facing, our experienced team of professionals has no idea that you might require our services. Save yourself a considerable headache in the future, and let SERVPRO of Nashua take care of your wet basement now. Give us a call anytime at (603) 889-2311.

Why Timely Mitigation is Crucial After a Water Damage Incident in Nashua

2/12/2018 (Permalink)

Water damage in your home can make you feel overwhelmed. Contact SERVPRO to remediate the damage and restore your home.

Team SERVPRO Arrives Quickly to Thoroughly Dry Out Your Water Damaged Property

It takes a few moments for water damage effects to turn your property from bad to permanent. In no time, the wood absorbs water and swells, some contents disintegrate, and odors result from probable rotting. However, what are you supposed to do to prevent the damage from spreading to other areas in your Nashua home when you do not have the skills and tools to do the restoration?

Preventing the secondary and severe complications which arise from water damage Nashua incidents is possible. What you require is to act promptly and seek professional services. Our SERVPRO technicians conduct water damage mitigation in an aim to curb the spread of the water. In the end, you can know what to replace and what is repairable.

If there is stagnant water in an accessible area, then we may use truck-mounted water extractors to do the removal; otherwise, we use portable types. We work towards efficient drying by employing the right technology to do moisture removal. It is normal to see us using a moisture meter to find out the correct moisture content in materials. To enhance the drying process, we may ventilate the area and set up air movers as per the IICRC standards.

When the moisture evaporates from surfaces, the surrounding air absorbs it by acting as a sponge. There reaches a point where the relative humidity increases, and it is advisable to remove the additional moisture from the air. We do this to prevent secondary damage once it settles on materials after it cools. Through dehumidification, our SERVPRO team can extract the additional water vapor in the air.

When rotting has already taken place, and smells are present at the site, we perform deodorization. The deodorants neutralize the odors and sterilize the area to prevent the chances of mold growth. We readily address any pre-existing damage as we work towards making your property attain its preloss state.

SERVPRO of Nashua works towards restoring your property after water, fire, storm and mold damage incidents. Call us at (603) 889-2311 and be served by a trusted leader that responds faster to all sizes of disasters.

Our High-Tech Water Removal for Nashua Soaked Carpet Situations

10/14/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO technicians use an array of drying equipment to rid your soaked carpets of water,

SERVPRO Uses Professional Drying Equipment to Quickly and Efficiently Remove Unwanted Water in Your Home

Soaked carpets always spell trouble for their owners. Removing water from a Nashua home's carpeting in large volumes is no easy feat without expensive and specialized tools, and just choosing to do nothing can invite a host of negative and detrimental effects into your home, including warping, material disintegration, and mold growth. SERVPRO removes water from carpeting through the use of air movers. These are powerful fans that create directional air flows and target specific parts of a room to dry quickly.

Air movers are one of the most critical components of our water removal plan for Nashua homes. These machines are flexible and can be placed in a wide variety of room shapes, sizes, and special conditions. Air movers placed on the floor can create intense currents directly over the soaked carpet. Some may also be placed perpendicular to the ground to create more diverse and optimal airflows in the room. Moreover, in some cases, we may aim the air movers underneath your carpet. If the soak is thorough, it may take direct drying from underneath to be entirely negated.

In addition to the air movers, our array of other equipment finishes the job where air currents cannot. Dehumidifiers remove water droplets from the air and control humidity in your home. Deodorizing machines can eliminate any odors that may have become more prevalent thanks to the water damage. Also, if the water proves too voluminous for our air movers to handle, we can use portable extraction devices to pump excess water directly out of the home.

These are but a few of the machines we use when removing water from carpeting. We are always careful to avoid rips, tears, and warps in material wherever possible, and more often than not, end up saving the carpet partially or entirely. Be sure to ask a representative for more information about what our arsenal can do.

SERVPRO of Nashua is a locally-owned franchise of a national company. We offer professional and timely restoration services to homes that have been hit by a disaster. Call us at (603) 889-2311.

Nashua Wet Basement Inspection Leads to Prevention

Basement Dryness in Nashua Keeps the House in Better Condition--If Wet, Call SERVPRO

Continual Dampness Needs Remedial Help from SERVPRO in Your Nashua Basement

A nuisance is how most people describe finding water in their basement or crawlspace. An annoyance that most people try to fix with a Wet-Vac and hanging carpets outside to dry. That may work for a single incident, but when it happens regularly, there is an underlying problem.

The more common reasons for a wet basement in Nashua or anywhere in New Hampshire are condensation and runoff. SERVPRO understands how these causes affect a home, how to treat them and prevent a recurrence. Condensation is also known as sweating. It appears in the form of wet spots, water droplets on the walls and ceilings, and small puddles on the basement floor. They develop when warm, moist air encounters cool, foundation walls or poorly insulated cold-water pipes. In a full-size basement, this leads to damp carpets, rusting metal in shelving and appliances such as washers and dryers. In crawlspaces, this speeds up wood rot, encourages insect growth, and damages stored property.

Our first step to stopping condensation is to set up a commercial grade humidifier. We can remove over 20 gallons per day depending on the humidity level. If the HVAC system has vents in the basement, we turn up the heat to speed up drying. If there is no heat, we bring in portable heaters to raise the temperature. Once the walls are dry, technicians lay down a coat of waterproof sealant to form a barrier against further water intrusion. For crawlspaces, we recommend covering the ground and walls with polyethylene plastic sheeting that serves the same purpose. Ask us about a full encapsulation program for your crawlspace.

Runoff is melted snow or rainwater that runs off the roof and down the side of a home, rather than through rain gutters and drainpipes. The water works through the topsoil and collects along the foundation walls. It eventually works its way through the porous concrete and into the basement

or crawlspace. To stop this, technicians first clean out and repair or replace the drainage system. A proper drain system directs further water away from the foundation and lets the walls begin to dry. If there is a driveway or other covered area next to the foundation, we also check that for cracks and joint separation. These allow water to get under the concrete where it eventually gathers against the foundation.
With the problem identified, we begin digging. We expose the foundation walls so we can check them for holes, cracks and other openings such as the entry points for pipes and cables. Technicians seal everything with a waterproof caulk and then apply a rubber cement over the entire area to prevent further intrusion. Once the coating is dry, we replace the dirt along the foundation.

Dealing with a damp basement or crawlspace is almost the definition of nuisance. When it becomes a recurring problem, you need a professional restoration service. SERVPRO of Nashua has years of experience and hundreds of hours in basements drying, helping our neighbors put their homes and lives back together. If you need us, call (603) 889-2311 today.

Nashua Sump Pump Failure Causes Flooding

Nashua Sump Pump Breakdown Calls SERVPRO for Cleanup and Repair

SERVPRO Can Often Repair Sump Pumps While Extracting Standing Water with Our Equipment

For most New Hampshire homes, a sump pump is like a water heater. It is a necessary piece of household equipment that you never notice until it fails and you have to deal with the results.

SERVPRO understand exactly how a sump pump failure affects Nashua homes. As a locally owned franchise, we live here too and know what it is like to feel water on your toes when you step off the last of the basement stairs. Our experience and training let us deal with the common causes of a failure and how to handle them.

Power Failure – Get a backup generator already! OK, if you do not have one and the power is back on, there is the possibility that your pump was damaged when the power surged as it went out. Replacement components are an off-the-shelf item, and we keep parts for the major models in our inventory and ready to go. If this is the case, our technicians can get you back up in a matter of hours.

Wrong Size – This can go either direction. If you have a pump too large for your home, it works too hard and has a shorter lifespan. If too small, it cannot pump out the water fast enough. We can extract the water temporarily with portable submersible pumps, but you still need to purchase a new one for a permanent fix.

Improper Installation – If you or the installer did not set up the pump correctly, it would fail within a matter of minutes or hours. Unless the installation has broken the motor shaft, our technicians can repair and reinstall the pump, so it meets requirements. Depending on the extent of the failure, this could take a day or two. As we repair it, other technicians run one of our pumps to keep you dry.

Clogged or Frozen Discharge Lines – Water has nowhere to go if ice, dirt or other debris block the exit pipe except back into your home. A grated cover protects the exit pipe from dirt, rocks, and leaves. If there is the threat of ice, we can replace the existing pipe with a grated discharge line that has multiple openings.

SERVPRO of Nashua is prepared to help you keep your house safe and dry. We have the training and the equipment needed to get the job done. Call us today at (603) 889-2311 if you need our help or would like to schedule an inspection.

SERVPRO Nashua - Insulation Removal

4/10/2017 (Permalink)

Insulation that has become water-logged compacts and does not spring back to its original shape when it dries out.

Needing Insulation Removal Services in Your Home? Look No More!

Insulation serves two purposes: Keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. If it becomes damaged in any fashion, then it has to be removed and replaced. If your home’s insulation becomes contaminated in some way, it is now a health risk to your family.

Insulation removal from a Nashua home needs to be conducted by a professional service. SERVPRO has developed over our decades in business, a set of procedures that removes damaged or soiled insulation from your home. We go into the crawlspaces, attics, and wall spaces to take out hundreds of pounds of insulation without risk to your home or the health of the residents.

Insulation that has become water-logged compacts and does not spring back to its original shape when it dries out. Compaction reduces the thermal resistance or the R-value of the insulation, rendering it useless for keeping your home warm or cool. An inch of insulation has an R-value of about 2.2 to 3.5 depending on the type of insulation. Water reduces the ability to hold heat, preventing it from entering your home in the summer and keeping it inside when the temperature drops to freezing and below.

As valuable as insulation is, it is also a natural source of nesting material for mice, squirrels, and raccoons. Other areas of the attic and crawlspaces quickly become a bathroom, harboring feces and urine. Animal waste not only smells bad, but the buildup also provides a vector for respiratory ailments and other diseases.

When this happens, our SERVPRO technicians remove the contaminated insulation and then use anti-fungal and anti-microbial sprays and cleaners to sterilize the affected areas. Once completed, new insulation can safely be laid or blown in place.

There is one last reason to remove water insulation that does not involve damage or animal waste; saving money. The insulation you buy today has a higher R-value than what was on the market 20 years ago. Today’s insulation is far superior to what was blown or laid into homes 40 years ago or even father back.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

Keeping your home comfortable and free from contamination may be expensive, but it is usually quickly accomplished. Removing old insulation gives you peace of mind when it comes to the health of your family and the amount of money saved each month by replacing damaged insulation adds up very quickly. Before the summer heat arrives, call SERVPRO of Nashua at (603) 889-2311 today.
